“Positive, Personalized Education”

Lancaster Independent Study is a positive, personalized educational alternative to the traditional educational opportunities that can be found on a comprehensive high school campus.  The whole premise of Independent Study is the “one size does NOT fit all” axiom.  Independent Study was created to provide a more personalized education for students who have difficulty being successful in large, traditional schools.  At Lancaster Independent Study students are provided with a small school setting, a safe and secure environment, and a positive, personalized approach to instruction.  The Independent Study Center has been successful in delivering challenging school curriculum in a non-traditional manner. The primary emphasis focuses on dropout prevention, students who are at-risk of failing in the traditional program and students with special needs or circumstances.  Lancaster Independent Study integrates the newest technology into the educational day, including NovaNET, a computer based curriculum service based at the University of Illinois.  All students in Independent Study retain the full rights of any student at the resident school and he/she may participate in all school activities, play sports, and graduate with the rest of their class.  Lancaster Independent Study is an optional educational delivery system, not an optional curricular system.  All Antelope Valley Union High School graduation requirements must be met by all students for promotion consideration.  Monitoring of progress is maintained on a weekly basis.  The Lancaster Independent Study Staff is dedicated to providing a nurturing yet rigorous and relevant education that will prepare the student for “real world” success after high school.
