Mr. Hayhurst's Bio

Mr. Hayhurst was born in Tucson, AZ, and is the second in a line of science teachers. His father, Mike Hayhurst, is a retired science teacher, although he still coaches football at Tombstone High School in Tombstone, AZ.

Pat Hayhurst graduated from Western New Mexico University in Silver City, NM. His Degree is a B.S. in Secondary Education and General Science. He has ten years of teaching experience (prior to this year), five of which were at Joe Walker Middle School

In his fifth year at Lancaster High School, Mr. Hayhurst is very happy. Since coming to LnHS, Mr. Hayhurst has earned a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from California State University, Bakersfield. He feels that being a master teacher is very important and strives to become perfect in all that he does. More growth in education is always possible and who knows where his education will lead his career next. He also states that he strives to be a lifelong learner and is continuing his own education on a regular basis, now mostly through coaching clinics and seminars.

Personal Interests

Mr. Hayhurst is the head wrestling coach at Lancaster High School. Additionally, he coaches freestyle wrestling outside of the CIF season for the Freebirds Wrestling Club. He feels that "co-curricular activities," as he calls them, "are an integral part of the educational process." He claims that he teaches "Skills for Living" through athletic competition.

Mr. Hayhurst likes to spend what little spare time he has with his family. He has a wife and three kids at home and they give him much love and fulfillment. When they are together away from the school they like to ride horses at the family ranch in Arizona, go hiking in many areas of the rich southwest, and spend time with the extended family.
