Independent Study Program

Independent Study is a unique alternative education program designed to meet the needs of the diverse population the program serves.

Through other than traditional education models, the Independent Study program assists many students to achieve their educational goals who might otherwise become high school dropouts. Students are accepted or placed into Independent Study for a wide variety of reasons.

After discussion with the Independent Study Counselor, application is made to the Placement Committee for evaluation and consideration. Special Education students must have an IEP that will approve an Independent Study placement due to the immense reading requirements necessary to complete the assignments. Students must demonstrate that they can be "Independent" learners.

Independent Study enhances the opportunities of all students who desire it to achieve their High School diploma. To be successful in the program a student must be capable of following directions, be self-disciplined and self-motivated to achieve and stay on task. Students complete instructional units in a multitude of curriculum areas and must pass with a minimal grade of 60% or completely redo their work and test. Grades of F are not acceptable in the Independent Study program.
